Happy New Year!!!!
It’s January 6, 2017, and it’s cold, windy, and wet, here at The SnK. The rain is freezing on all it falls on, so we’re not doing much if anything outside. We have the fireplace stoked and will probably feed it all day and night. Tomorrow will probably be the same, as it’s going to be another cold one.
Luckily, we’re not getting any snow. Not that it would matter. We’re not going anywhere. We did our running around the other day. Actually, I bet the place would look very pretty with snow. 🙂
So, how’s your 2017 kicking off? How was your 2016?
Our 2017 has been fairly relaxing. Not much going on around here, other than enjoying wandering around the place. The tractor is in the shop, so firebreak work has come to a standstill. We’re hoping to burn about half the place, for our restoration and enhancement grants. Sure hope I get the tractor back soon.
2016 was fairly busy for us. We cleared a ton of brush. Maybe, more than a ton. I know I burned a BUNCH of it, that’s for sure. We picked up the seeds for the Monarch Butterfly Habitat Enhancement grant. The bags are sitting in the garage, waiting for when the seeds can go in the ground.
The hunting crew did well this season, taking 7 or 8 deer. Four were Doe, as we get Doe tags here. Some were pretty good sized. I’m hoping that they’ll bless us with some meat. I don’t hunt, as my dad wasn’t a hunter, so I never had the chance.
Well, I do hunt hog. That’s fun. I really need to learn to field dress them, so we can enjoy some meat. Maybe the hunters will teach me some time.
Selena’s been staying busy taking care of the birds. She bought a heated bird bath so that they’ll have water even in freezing temps. Right now, she’s watching them through the back door. We’ve been fortunate to see Green Jays at the feeder this year. They’re SO pretty.
I haven’t been keeping up with the blog as much as I should. I’ll see if I can take care of that, but this site is not all about the blog. It’s about sharing info, so we’ll keeping putting up links for interesting and useful stuff.
Time to move on to some other things that I need to take care of.
Until next time, Peace!
