It’s a beautiful morning, here at The SnK Wildlife Reserve. South Central Texas had crisp temps this morning, making it wonderful, out on the back porch, as I enjoyed my Tree Frog Coffees’ coffee. Speaking of Tree Frog Coffees, Selena and I highly recommend them, not only because they are delicious, but they are from farms that utilize sustainable farming practices.
Any way, back to the morning. While sipping my coffee, I was blessed to hear the sounds of multiple Bob White quail calling. We didn’t hear, much less see, Bob White on the place when we moved here, in 2006. Now they’re coming back. Guess we’re doing something right.
In addition to the quail, the Hummers came out in force. Selena keeps the feeders filled, all year round. Yep, we have hummers winter over, at The SnK. The other birds quickly came out to the feeders, and as the sun began to brighten the skies, the calls began to multiply. Lovely sounds, for shore!
Yesterday evening, while on our evening walk, we enjoyed the site of a Grey Fox out on the road. We’ve had a Mama fox water at the dish in the back yard, the past couple years past. We knew Mama, as she had full teats. Quite a site to see.
The White Tail are abundant, again this year, with a number of new additions. We’ve seen a number of nice racks this year too. The hunters have the option to take Doe again this year, as we were awarded 4 Doe Permits, as part of our management plan.
Well, time to head call about a water storage tank, as we’re going to put in a “Guzzler” in the far most back section. Since we don’t have permanent water back there, we’re going to set up another supplemental water system.
That’s it for now. Hopefully, I can get Selena into the system, and let her share her insights.
All the best! Keith, the K in The SnK
