The Latest at The SnK

Rose Breasted Grosbeaks

This morning (early May 5, 2017) I realized that it’s been almost a month since I last posted. Nothing too exciting going on, just getting ready for the Texas Pollinator PowWow this weekend and taking care of stuff.

Probably the three most exciting things are the extension we’ve received for the Monarch Butterfly Habitat Enhancement grant, sighting of Rosebreasted Grosbeaks at the feeder, and Pat and Glenn Merkord of Native Prairies of Texas visited The SnK today.

We’re both excited about these happenings, as well as our attending the Texas Pollinator PowWow this weekend.

Oh, and Milk Weed, we’ve found Milk Weed on the place. We’ve found plants blooming and with seed pods. We actually collected some seeds from plants along the road, on our walk yesterday. There are a few plants with pods that haven’t opened yet, so we’ll be keeping our eyes on them.

On top of that, we’ve spotted some native orchids again. It’s been a few years since we’ve seen them. We’re definitely tickled to have them back. We’ve also found Purple Pleat Leaf again.

Nodding Lady’s Tresses (Spiranthes cernua)

Just earlier today, I realized that I hadn’t posted in a while and that I had this post hanging.

Unfortunately, I don’t have more photos ready to post, and not much to really share.

I have gotten back to work on burn breaks in the Monarch Enhancement area and we’re expecting our TPWD Biologist out in the morning. We’re going to tool around and take a look at what we’ve been up to.

It’s getting hotter and drier here, although we did get a small shower today. Enough to wet the ground, kill my progress in cutting grass, but it was nice to hear it on the metal roof and to feel the cool wetness.

If we’re lucky we might get some more tonight. Fingers crossed.

Well, until next time. I’ve got pics to go through.

Peace! Keith, the K at The SnK.
